Now is the Time For Love

Since today is the day that the Lord has made and since we express our Love for him because he loves us, I thought it best to post an artist who made his living off of the feeling of Love. Maxwell who hands down is one of the most talented singers that I have ever witnessed should be considered as one the best all time R&B artist to ever pick up a mic. To me one of his best albums is called "Now", which was released in 2001 was jazzed up and cool as always.

Superstar In The Background

Most of you recognize this voice on some of Lupe Fiasco's best songs such as Superstar & American Terrorist.  Well folk singer and Lupe's 1st & 15th labelmate Matthew Santos displays his versatile singing abilities on his 2007 acoustic solo album "Matters of The Bittersweet". Check him out!

The Revolution of Flobotics

This is a Get To Know about the Flobots who are from Denver, Colorado. I discovered this group this summer when I went down to Tampa Florida for my family reunion. I went to the mall and saw their album and  thought "that looks interesting" so I bought it and I have not regreted that decision. This band is lead by Mc Johnny 5, and producer Yahktoe who actually were the original two people in the band and presented an album called "Onomatopoeia". They joined up with Mc Brer Rabit, violist Mackenzie Roberts, bassist Jesse Walker, guitarist Andy Guerrero (from funk band Bop Skizzum), trumpet player Joe Ferrone (also from Bop Skizzum), and drummer Kenny Ortiz to form the present version of the Flobots. Thier album " Fight with tools" is an eye opener because of the message it sends to the listening public,"Think For Your Self". The Flobots are revolutionary because their beats are rock and folk put together and their rap style is using life's peer pressure as their niche. This group is revolutionary and you'd better give them a listen if you like good music!

Get To Know

A Chicago rapper by the name of Really Doe released his debut album a while back entitled "First Impressions".  I decided that the public needs to "Get To Know" Really Doe. Really Doe is apart of the new age of the nerd rap epidemic, but at the same time has a different type of swag to him, like he's confident but not cocky. He may not blow up like Kid Cudi but he's definitely going to stay in the game for a long time to come. His album has alot of different elements that express his life, goal, and the reason hip hop is important to him, check him out and let me know what you think.

Centers Edge

Since were on the subject of Centers edge, I thought it best to post some of their best solo work to get you aklamated; so here it is: Currren$y, Mos Def and Jay Electronica solo projects:

Currency

Jay Electronica

The Walking Philosopher

As you know, I am a Huge fan of K'Naan, so it's no surprise that I have all his albums. I posted his tributes and his live performance earlier in the year, but his other two albums "Troubadour" and "The Dusty Foot Philosopher" are freakin insane. Both are classic albums that should get more buzz. K'naan in going to blow worldwide, and I'm joining the ban wagon now before everyone else catches on. Cop these two albums; You won't regret it:

Damian Marley: Halfway Tree

This is Damian Marley's debut album entitled "Halfway Tree", pretty ill, Check it out:

Living On "Center Edge"

As if the Slaughterhouse project wasn't incredible enough, it seems like New Orleans has caught the supergroup bug as rappers Curren$y, Jay Electronica, & Mos Def have joined lyrical forces to create "Center Edge Territory".  Apparently this happened at a Dame Dash party? smh.

This is the first offering from 2/3rd's of Center Edge Territory. Curren$y flow + Mos Def production = an already promising project.

Like Father Like Son

Recently I just finished exams and I decided to jam out to the vibed out sounds of Bob Marley and his album called "Exodus". Then I started thinking, "What about his son's album"(Damian Marley, I know there are alot). His album "Welcome to Jamrock" is probably one of the best reggae joints i've heard in a while, but then again I dont listen to much reggae so take the last comment how you want. But he's like his Father in the regard of using his lyrics to tell a story of world problems, the common man, and just life in general. Though he's never going to be his father, he just maybe able to carve a piece of musical history for himself.

Phonte Can SING!!

Yup, Phonte the rapper from Little Brother can actually sing, and pretty good I might add. Phonte is now in a group with Nicolay a producer who is known for his jazzed up and soul thumping beats both together produce "Foreign Exchange". Their last album "Leave it All Behind" was one of the best albums of 2009. Phonte's voice and Nicolays beats match perfectly, and with guest appearances from Darien Brockington, Muhsinah, and Yahzarah, the album gets that much more soulful. Its a Breath of Fresh Air; check it out!

Flyin on Cloud 9

Since were on the subject of Flyin, I've got two artist whose voices can send you on a trip to cloud 9 and beyond, and you'll never want to come back down. Darien Brockington is a singer from North Carolina, he hangs with Little brother and is on alot of their albums. His album "Somebody To Love", is one of the best R&B albums that I have heard in a while. Its got soul, good flow, and Brockington's voice is a perfect match of soothing and up lifting. Lynden David Hall is a deceased artist unfortunately, his album "Medicine 4 My Pain" in 1997 was so soulful that I just felt like fallin in love with life all over again. He takes you on a journey to a place where only the concerns of you and your significant other matter.

Fly For A White Guy

Here's another Get To Know.  I know what your thinking, "here goes another Asher Roth."  Well you would be stupid to sleep on Mac Miller.  Another rapper from the smoker's section of PA, Miller's flow is above average. A stoner that can lyrically keep up with any rapper, black or white. Check him out!

Successor of "Wiz"dom

When people think rappers from Pennyslvania they think about getting "clapped wit a toaster" whatever that means. Well this young cat from Pittsburg, PA exceeds all gunplay stereotypes trading in the Pistol off Pistolvania for a backpack and a dutch.  Wiz Khalifa's style is unmatchable and his mic skills are legit. Check him out. "Yeahhhhhhhhh bitch!"
