Amsterdam represents

One of my favorite emcees, Pete Philly,
just came out with an Lp entitled "Open Loops".
For 14 weeks he released a single from the Lp and
just this week he finally released the whole thing. And
trust me when I say this is soul with a high fly theme,
and something different all at the same time.

Blue Scholars

Since I wont be posting on Christmas day I decided to
give yall one more gift. The Blue Scholars own Sabzi
(Producer) released an Ep with a singer named Kelsey.
I got this in my inbox; check the email.

Hellooooooo, Saba here.

Hope you're having a pleasant winter season! Geo and I are happy to announce that Cinemetropolis is fully mixed and on its way to mastering. Soon we'll have a finished album to share with all of you. It's been long time coming and we're very excited for you to hear it. Anyway, you're probably on this email list cuz you like Blue Scholars beats, so I'm assuming you'll wanna hear about this new side project. Last week I got together with a good friend of mine (her name is Kelsey) and formed duo named MADE IN HEIGHTS and in a matter of days we produced a little EP. As friends of Blue Scholars, all of you have been such supportive folks over the years so I thought it'd be cool to share this with you first.
Consider it a gift from us to you. Please feel free to share the link with friends and fam. Be well!
Ya I know great timing.
Merry Christmas to all
God Bless

It's some kind of Oldies

The young emcee Diggy Simmons just put out
a new mixtape with Dj Premier. He goes in over
7 different old school beats, which he holds his own
on. I cannot front I may not be a fan of Diggy, but he
brings the boom bap back on this one.

Virginia is Complicated

At least according to one of my favorite hip hop groups called the Five One. This Lp is actually one
thier first lp entitled the "Virginia Complex". Live
instrumentation, good lyrics and versatile beats.

Old School Mondays

So yesterday I was looking for some new or old
Madlib music. Then I stumbled upon an old album
that him and Talib Kweli did back in '06. Entitled
"Liberation", the lp was for free for a couple of days.
It's 9 original tracks with the same Talib flow. So
how can you complain.
Talib + Madlib=Some Kind of Wonderful

Sundays are for God and good music

One of my favorite producers Apple Juice Kid
just put out his new Ep. For the Christmas spirit
he decided to remix Frank Sinatra. Not only is
it one of the best remixes that I've heard in a while,
but its probably going to be a Christmas tradition to
listen to this every year.
Check it, I'm sure you'll get a kick out of this one-

Nu-Soul

Jesse Boykins III -Come To My Room(Official Music Video) from LightUp Film on Vimeo.

This is a song from Jesse Boykin III's 2008
lp "Beauty Created". If this is not soul then I don't know what is.
This is what I like to call baby making music, lol.
Check it out right here-
Here's a message from Jesse-
"When I created The Beauty Created I aimed to make music that symbolizes moments of love at every level. It has been 2 years since the task and I feel as if I have made these very moments with all of you. I know the best way to show my appreciation is to continue our connection by making more passionate music. I am truly grateful for every ear that has heard a song from that album, and shared a song with their loved ones. I will continue to insist on romance in every lyric I put melody to. Thank You. Also Thanks to Soul Train & Centric for my award nomination."

Old School Mondays: A Rare Gem From Blu

Ya you heard right, I actually was able to find
some new Blu that is actually pretty old but is
rare. This is one of Blu's first projects with fellow
rapper Jack Spade(Donel Smoke) called "The
Bruise Brothers EP". This is when Blu started to
form his non-chalant rap style which has made him
into one the most feared emcees in the game.

Replaying the moment

Gatorade is doing a replay series where they
are taking high school championships or big
games and bringing all the players back for
redemption. It's pretty sweet but the theme
song is better. Especially since Jenifer Hudson
is on the hook, Lupe and Common are rappin
and No I.D. is producing. Ya it's true and this
song is so good that wish it were a whole Lp.
But the song will have to do-

Life of a Lover

Theophilus London released his lp "I Want You" a few months ago, but just decided to release a new version of the song Life of a Lover with a Blu verse.

and for great music. And today I am
giving you something from my home
coast. Miguel, the talented singer from

Cool Fridays:A Learning Experience

As you know I am a big fan of Von Pea.
So you know when I found a demo
entitled "Audible Silence:The Words Anthology"
I went nuts.
Hear's what Von says about the project made back in 2001
"It was 2000. I’d just met eccentric and krewcial. Eccentric taught me how to make beats with my computer and krewcial taught me how to record vocals on my computer. Eventually khrysis, bennie guinness, suburb, and aeon would teach me some of the techniques I still use to this day. My first song was called “I got soul”. After I did that one (rapping into headphones) I recorded a full length demo and put it on mp3.com. No one could understand what I was saying, and the reason was because I needed a real microphone. If you listen to “over” by tanya morgan you’ll hear the story. I didn’t have a job so I literally saved any drop of money I’d get for weeks until I could afford a mic. First song I recorded with the real microphone was called “its us” and to this day its still my favorite song I’ve done because it was the beginning. I still remember how I felt standing there recording it, it felt like I was on stage at graduation! Its the last song on my first real effort, and that came out 2001. After I put it online I did some remixes to some of the songs and a new song or two, then “repackaged” it. This is the repackaged version. If you come to my blog often chances are this is old news to you, but bare with me. “pea’s gotta have it” is on the way (Sept. 7th) and I’m revisiting the things that got me to this point."

A Vada Reference

The Academy will be doing a new post called "Reference".
This will center around good music that was referred
to us by our friends, family, anybody. This week I choose
to use Vado's new Lp "Slime Flu" as the first post. Vada
referred me to him a few weeks ago and I am now getting
around to listening to him. He's on his ignorant ish but I like
his flow so I'll bump it-
